London based electronic musician Hinako Omori releases a remix EP of Bank Of Inner Criticisms, a stand out track from her debut Aurelia EP, featuring three strong and varied interpretations by Ill Japonia, Dylan Henner and Matt Emery.
The EP begins with a soaring, euphoric remix by Ill Japonia, the new trap influenced solo project of Bo Ningen’s Taigen Kawabe. In sharp contrast, Dylan Henner’s remix transforms the melancholy of the original in to a narcoleptic haze, effusing an eerie sense of despair and dejection. The EP ends fittingly with Matt Emery’s gorgeous cello version, which elicits a profoundly moving, cinematic sense of farewell; a dramatic, heart wrenching parting of ways.
Hinako Omori is a musician with a love for synthesizers and anything that makes interesting sounds. Born in Yokohama, Japan she moved to London when she was three, where she is still based. Initially training to be a sound engineer, Hinako studied Music and Sound Recording at the University of Surrey and then went on to continue working in music, at a record label and as part of a curation team for a festival. After session playing on the side, she leapt into working full time as a pianist/keyboard player and programmer – some of the artists Hinako has worked and toured with include EOB (Ed O’Brien), Georgia, Kae Tempest and Fionn Regan.

You don’t often see two titans at the top of their game collaborate, let alone create something that is as good as or greater than their individual works. At times it’s possible to hear elements from each artist, but the real magic is when you have no idea who did what, except contribute to the production of a piece of art that is regarded as a classic. Parallel 1 reminds me of life... a journey that is at times blissful, exploratory, and meditative. It's incredible that the artist who created this is the same one who gave us Kool FM and KHLHI and who remixed Opus and A Violent Noise. That versatility might be part of Four Tet's genius, and his longevity due in part to his progression, evolution, talent, and ear for music. Art in sound form, music that feels alive... yet underneath it all is that unmistakable soul. Edward
